Community acquired pneumonia can now safely be treated with 5 days of antibiotics as opposed to 10 days. This is great news as the less time the human microbiome sees antimicrobial medicines, the less the risk of biodiversity microbial damage.

The group compared 5 versus 10 days of medicine head to head in 281 children with community acquired pneumonia. The results are equal efficacy in the two groups allowing us to heavily consider reducing total length of antimicrobial therapy for all children over 1 year of age.
